I recently made homemade cake pops. I had never attempted to make cake pops before, mainly because I end up eating the entire cake as is! 🍰 However, I had some leftover frosting sitting in my fridge, so I decided I would finally use it up by making cake pops.
What I Used:
- A box of cake mix
- Half a jar of frosting
- Candy melts
- Lollipop sticks
- Parchment paper
How I Made ‘Em:
First, I made the cake mix according to the box directions. I used the Pillsbury Funfetti Premium Cake Mix. After combining all the ingredients, I baked my cake and let it cool for 15 minutes. Make sure the cake cools because the cake pops need to hold together.
When the cake was cooled, I crumbled it up and mixed in half a jar of frosting. I used the Betty Crocker Cream Cheese Frosting. Next, I scooped palm-sized amounts of the dough and rolled them into balls. I refrigerated the balls for 10 minutes to let them firm up.
Then, I microwaved Wilton’s White Candy Melts and got my lollipop sticks ready. I stuck lollipop sticks on each cake ball and rotated them quickly in the melted chocolate. Lastly, I dusted colorful sprinkles on each one and put them on the parchment paper with the sticks standing up. After refrigerating, the cake pops were ready to enjoy!
Final Thoughts & Tips
I was a bit harsh on myself because the cake pops weren’t smooth, but everyone loved them! To fix the coating issue, use regular chocolate instead of candy melts because you”ll have more time to smoothen the coating. Keep in mind that you can use any brand and flavor of cake mix and frosting. You can even make yours from scratch if you’ve got the time and skills! Funfetti cake and cream cheese frosting are my favorites, but the possible combinations are endless! Happy baking! 👩🍳
